Answer
How do I cancel Bluehost and get a refund?
Within 30 days, through your account — but check what you bought. The guarantee covers Shared, VPS and Dedicated. Bluehost Cloud Hosting and any monthly-term service are excluded entirely.
Before you cancel
- Export your site. Take a full backup — files and database — and download it somewhere you control. Do not rely on Bluehost’s backups, which are weekly, overwritten, and carry a restore fee.
- Save your email. If you used Bluehost mailboxes, export the mail. It goes when the account goes.
- Note your domain’s status. A domain registered less than 60 days ago cannot be transferred away yet.
What you get back
The hosting fee, minus the domain. If your plan included a free domain, Bluehost deducts its regular cost — $23.99 for a .com. Refunds take 5–7 business days.
Non-refundable regardless: domain registrations and renewals, SSL certificates, domain privacy, SiteLock, website transfers, Design Services, SEO packages and setup fees.
After the 30 days
There is no partial refund for the unused part of a term. If you are outside the window, you have two realistic options: ride out the term and leave at renewal, or write it off and move now.
Before you write it off, try asking the retention team — a discount on the remaining term or on renewal is a common outcome and costs one conversation.
