Answer
Does Bluehost refund the free domain?
No, and it costs more than you might expect. If your plan included a free domain and you take the 30-day refund, Bluehost deducts the domain’s regular cost — $23.99 for a .com, not the $12.99 registration rate.
A worked example
Say you buy Bluehost Starter on a 36-month term at $3.99/mo. That is roughly $143.64 upfront. You decide on day 20 that it is not for you.
You are inside the 30-day window, so you are entitled to a refund — minus $23.99 for the domain that was advertised as free. Refunds take 5–7 business days.
The domain is yours to keep. But you cannot transfer it away for 60 days after registration, so it sits at Bluehost in the meantime.
What else is excluded
The 30-day guarantee covers Shared, VPS and Dedicated. It does not cover Bluehost Cloud Hosting or any monthly-term service. Also non-refundable: domain registrations and renewals, SSL certificates, SiteLock, domain privacy, website transfers, SEO packages and setup fees.
The practical lesson
Register domains at a dedicated registrar rather than taking the host’s free one. It costs $10–15 a year, it keeps your domain independent of your hosting decisions, and it removes the deduction from any future refund. A free domain is a one-year discount attached to a multi-year entanglement.
SiteGround states that domain fees may be due on cancellation even where they were waived as part of a promotion. Hostinger makes domain registration fees flatly non-refundable. Bluehost is simply the most specific about deducting the higher rate.
